5 Small Habits to Take Care of Yourself

The daily life of a caregiver can be hectic. It doesn’t get any easier when you have a long list of things to do. But no matter how busy life gets, your downtimes are necessary.

There are many self-care tips that circulate in both print and digital media – from eating right to smiling bright. However, we often overlook those tiny steps we can do to feel better: Foolproof ways to treat yourself kindly in under 10 minutes or so!

Here are small ways to help you feel a little better each day:

  1. Enjoy a scent therapy.

Aromatherapy can be as relaxing as getting a good massage. There’s something exciting and relaxing about getting into its ritual, like focusing on enjoying a scented bath or a lighted candle. Inhaling the aroma awakens the senses and calms your inner storms. It’s a must-try!

  2. Have a feel-good playlist.

There is something about music that can lift your spirits. Listening to good songs while completing a task can positively affect your mood and productivity. Try to organize your favorite tunes into a single playlist. Listen, dance, and sing along!

  3. Have a journal.

Have small accomplishments for the day? Write it down. Got a compliment? Write it down. Every positive moment counts, and they are worth noting. Have a journal and jot them down. Read this whenever you need a little pick-me-up during your tough days. It reminds you of the many things you should be proud of and makes you feel good about yourself.

  4. Call a friend or a loved one.

Reconnect with a beloved. Maybe your family lives miles away or you haven’t seen a friend for so long. Having that phone call can be rewarding enough to turn your day a little brighter. Keep a solid communication with your family and friends. Talk to them even when you aren’t wired on your caregiving duties. They are the best sources of bliss.

  5. Take care of your skin.

Having a youthful, radiant skin makes you feel more confident to seize the day. It gives you positive thoughts about your body. Lather some lotion and have a solid skincare routine before you sleep.

How Do You Practice Self-Care?

Some of these may work for you, while some may not. However, it is important to understand that the best way to practice self-care is going after what feels right for YOU.
